We played this song alot and multiple versions of it exist in the Video and BAWL Music sections. This is the single version of BYOOL recorded at Cargo Studios in Rochdale. This version is heavy on brass. Check out the alternate version a little further down.
Way before Green Day used the title we had our own Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Named after a famous James Dean poster at the time, the song was one of many that had religious connotations. The song appeared as the B side for the single Best Years Of Lives.
From a very early Spirit Studios session. This video put together by Martin Briars. This song is perhaps the earliest example of our Parisian sound.
Passion of Mine was a favourite of the band's and of our fans too. This version has recently been released by Firestation Records on their Sound of Lemington Spa collection. This video put together by Martin Briars.
Martin's homage to his favourite comedian (you'll have to watch the full video to find out who that is). Great story telling of his life and eventual demise and some 'what's it all about' philosophy thrown in for good measure. A beautiful song, great subject matter, lots of pathos and perhaps Martin's finest vocal performance. Recorded at Cavalier Studios in Stockport. Track provided by Martin Briars.
Early version of the single, this time recorded at Spirit Studios Manchester. Video put together by Martin Briars.
Another early BAWL number. This time the subject matter was the yuppie 'loadsa money' culture at the time. Also mixed in there are some more catholic religious imagery at the end.
Slightly different mix of the above song. Recorded at Spirit Studios Manchester. Thanks to Martin Briars for sending this track.
Early BAWL track recorded at Cavalier Studios. Nice riff! Chris Hyland on drums for this one. I remember the engineer, Lol, complimenting me on the final chord, "nice E6 chord" he said. Of course it was completely accidental, I just hadn't hit it right. I took the kudos though - it all counts!
Thanks to Martin Briars for sending this track.
Not the Elvis Costello version. Live version of this early favourite recorded live at the Gallery on Peter Street, Manchester in 1984?
Early BAWL favourite. Song that gave it's name to the record label. Not a great recording, I did my best with the audio. You can hear Martin singing snippets of an earlier tune The Way to Mandalay which never got played as a song in itself, but which you can hear in full in the Legacy Vol 1 section of this website.
A late demo of Between the Moon and the Stars. This is the only recording that exists from the day, as although we opened with it at the International 2 gig, it got missed of the video. This is at Spirit Studios circa 1986.
Again from the 1986 Spirit sessions. Mark Brady (Kev's brother) was doing a sound engineering course and could use studio time to record and mix a band. We got the gig.
A live recording from Fagins nightclub 1984. It's a pity that this is such poor quality as the song is strong. There is an version of this song on Legacy Vol 1 but on re-listening to this one I now think I didn't really do it justice. Might have to revisit!
3rd song from the Spirit 86 session. Another version of Remember. This one has me on vocals as Martin was late to the session and we were running out of time.
