Kiss, yes KISS! Recently, by chance, I read Paul Stanley's autobiography. He was spurred on to make something of himself partly because of the cruel taunting he suffered as a kid (he was born with only one ear) but also because of his parents' indifference to him and his sister. Growing up in a poor jewish area of New York he wanted nothing more to be successful, married and have kids. He comes over as a really nice guy and family man. Worth a read.

Written by Bowie for a failing band it revitalised Mott's career. Bowie initially offered them suffragette City but Mott turned it down as too weak a track.

Our contemporaries and friends from the Manchester Musicians' Collective, Gods Gift were a total audio/visual experience. One that many audiences hated. They were like Marmite, you loved them or hated them. Not their best song here, but at least it has pics of the boys in action.

Frankie and the Heart Strings - The Night
Cover of Frankie Valli's The Night. Brilliant song, brilliant bass at the beginning- not very often I wish I'd been a teenager in Wigan during the 70s but this video makes me wish I was.

Pete and the Pirates were a great band from a few years back, unfortunately split but most are in Teleman, also great band. This is my favourite track, partly cause it reminds me of good times at Corbieres wine bar on half moon street, Manchester (great juke box), but mostly cause it's a great song with a story

One of my favourite Fall tracks. Quite a simple repetitive riff, great backing vocals, with Mark E Smith back to his best.

A & J stone - for the simplicity....
